DAVAO CITY–Foreign observers said they’re aware that Filipinos will be braving bullets and bribes in today’s first ever automated elections but hope that their presence will deter electoral fraud. “I am here to observe, to monitor and to report what I see,” said Lawyer Radhika Sainath, a civil rights lawyer from Los Angeles, California. “Filipinos will be braving bullets, bribes and voting machine breakdowns to make their voices heard,” she said. “We hope that our presence will help deter and expose any potential election-day fraud.” Read more.

In a pending court settlement that could affect thousands of motorists, two Orange County toll road agencies have agreed to forgive more than $40 million in fines and pay $1.4 million to a group of drivers who alleged that they were charged excessive penalties for unpaid tolls.
The proposed settlement involves the Orange County Transportation Authority, which owns the 91 Express Lanes on the 91 Freeway, and the Irvine-based Transportation Corridor Agencies, the operator of a 51-mile network of tollways comprising the Eastern, the Foothill and the San

Once again, Hadsell Stormer Keeny Richardson & Renick LLP's Dan Stormer was named to the Daily Journal's Top 100 leading lawyers in California. Mr. Stormer was ranked in the top 100 of more than 850 nominees. There are currently over 200,000 practicing lawyers in California. The Daily Journal cited his successful work on behalf of a group of NASA Scientists who fought intrusive national security background checks into their sex lives and other private matters, as well as a $2.9 million settlement against the City of Ontario in which police officers were secretly videotaped. Fifteen families will receive more than $4.5 million to settle a three-year-old habitability suit against
the current and former landlords of an apartment building who allowed the property to fall into egregious disrepair.

The City of Ontario agreed to pay $2.75 million to settle a lawsuit brought by
125 police officers who sued after they were secretly video taped while dressing
in the Department's men's locker room. The class action lawsuit, brought by
Hadsell, Stormer, Keeny, Richardson & Renick and the ACLU of Southern California, was
scheduled to begin trial today after 13 years of litigation.
